Leica M9-P este o versiune discreta a modelului M9. Corpul este disponibil in finisaj argintiu (steel-gray) si ofera o rearanjare minora a butoanelor fata de M8 si multe schimbari in interior. CCD-ul dezvoltat de Kodak contine microlentile decalate imbunatatite pentru a optimiza performantele la marginea cadrelor si un nou filtru de protectie pentru blocarea spectrului infrarosu. Cel mai important, senzorul de dimensiunea standard a filmului de 35mm ofera utilizatorilor sistemului Leica M aceeasi incadrare ca pe aparatele rangefinder clasice. Camera este compatibila cu toate obiectivele pe montura M si beneficiaza de un senzor CCD full-frame, cu o rezolutie de 18.5 megapixeli, si un zgomot de imagine extrem de redus. Toate avantajele camerelor rangefinder sunt prezente si pe M9-P, Leica oferind o gama intreaga de functii si posibilitati intr-un design extrem de compact si cu o finisare perfecta. Diferentele notabile fata de M9 constau in protectia ecranului LCD, confectionata din sticla foarte rezistenta la zgarieturi si cu vizibilitate mult imbunatatita, prin aplicarea unor tratamente antireflex. Logo-ului Leica ii lipseste cercul rosu, optiune ce intentioneaza un plus de discretie pentru utilizatorii M9-P.
